Start Your Podcast! (Or: The One Where I Rave About Anchor.fm)
The One Where I Rave about Anchor.fm! The best low-tech/high-quality app specifically for podcasting. Since I am technologically challenged, this is an excellent app for me and I highly recommend it to anyone who is wanting to start a podcast but feels the set up and production is a daunting prospect. Anchor makes it SUPER simple to edit, cut, delete your audio as well as providing sound effects and musical snippets to use in an episode. There is no reason you cannot start a podcast if you use Anchor.fm! I’ll leave this episode uncut so you can compare to my other episodes. (You will probably notice a lot more “ums” and dead air in this episode as a result! But it will also help you to see the editing can be really tight!)
Also a perk: you don’t need a website to host your podcast. I use my own website sarahfenlonfalk.com to host it. And Anchor provides you with a link for each episode so that you can share the episode on social media! Adding cover art to the podcast or the episode is very easy as well.
Maybe it’s not only about the tech? Perhaps you’ve had difficulty zeroing in on your idea. For Storyteller Station I focus on the power of story and how telling your story can bring healing to you and to others. I interview storytellers of all types and talk with them about their mission in telling stories. We ALL have a story to tell and we all use different methods to share that story. Some use paint, some use a camera, some use words...there is healing and beauty in our stories.
So what’s your idea? Write a one or two sentence statement as to what you want your podcast, your storytelling, to focus on. Then write a mission statement around that. How is your idea going to help others? Once you’ve got your mission statement solidified it will be easier to come up with episode ideas, deciding who you want to interview, etc. Naming it should be easier at this point as well.
So, if I haven’t talked you into podcasting using Anchor.fm yet, maybe you have questions or want to learn more about it? Check out all the info on Anchor’s website as well as the training videos on YouTube. OR you can always shoot me a question and I’ll do my best to field it. If you’d like to contact me please feel free to leave me a message wherever you listen to podcasts or come to Facebook and join Storyteller Nation! I’d love to hear from you.
I hope you are well wherever you are and I look forward to talking with you again soon! Until then, Create something great!
